Our multiphase separators are typically fitted with inlet devices to absorb the momentum of the inlet fluid and a series of internal baffles for proper fluid distribution. Coalescing elements, cyclones, and vanes are used to minimize disturbance and aid separation.The multiphase separators design elements directly improve performance and decrease capex. Opex is also lowered by reducing the amount of production chemicals required.
Heavy oil expertise
We developed expertise with heavy crude oils first hand in Canada, Colombia, and Venezuela and can design equipment that meets the most demanding requirements.
The high viscosity and low oil-water density of heavy crude oil poses many special challenges. Often present in inlet streams, suspended solids must be flushed from the separators with a solids jetting system. Specially developed coalescing devices also assist in the removal of dispersed water and suspended solids from heavy oils.
Thoughtful design delivers better separation
The momentum of the crude oil flow is absorbed at the inlet device—a CONSEPT IVD separator inlet vane diffuser or the PORTA-TEST REVOLUTION separator internal—removing gas, while the bulk liquid settles into the horizontally flowing lower section of the separator. With the appropriate settling time and internal coalescing elements, the heavier water phase settles by gravity beneath the lighter oil phase.
Inlet flow surges are dissipated by distribution control baffles. This promotes crude oil stabilization prior to the next stage of processing. The optional addition of externally adjustable weirs and actuated control valves offers easy adjustment of fluid levels as needed.
Oil can be discharged from the multiphase separator through two or more compartments, while water is discharged from a single outlet located at the bottom of the vessel. Gas, which rises, is discharged through an outlet on top of the vessel.
